Accommodation: I highly recommend to start looking for places the time you get your confirmation from the host university. There is SSH, the official housing provider from the university, which offers flats for a good price, but there are limited spaces. As I didn’t get a flat from SSH, the provider from the university, I had to find something on the private market.
Activities and more: Rotterdam generally is a city full of young people and there is always someone to interact with, either at the university or at student houses, such as robert baeldestraat or the erasmus international house. While having free time from the university, you can always enjoy some exercise at the Erasmus sports building. It offers a big gym, tennis, basketball and squash courts and you can sign up for many sport courses.
You can meet some friends at kralingse plas, a big lake north of the city center. There is a nice beach and people meet up there for BBQs and swimming. And you can also buy a ticket from spido to do a harbor tour. I highly recommend doing the big tour (2 hours +) to see everything as the harbor is the biggest in Europe.
