The President and Chief Executive Officer of µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï, Professor Dr. Insa Sjurts, has been offered a chair at the Berufliche Hochschule Hamburg and is leaving µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï. The change will be effective at the beginning of next year. Professor Sjurts has successfully led µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï through the special challenges of the last three years.
"Together we have managed to steer µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï through a time of global uncertainty, to get important change processes underway and to make it shine in new splendour," says Insa Sjurts. "I would like to thank all my colleagues, our students and alumni, our partner companies and all our sponsors and friends for their trust, continued support and good cooperation over the past years," she continues. "I will not lose sight of µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï in the coming years either, because the Berufliche Hochschule Hamburg and µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï have complementary offerings that provide touch points for cooperation. They are pursuing the common goal of acting for the benefit of Hamburg's economy and resolutely counteracting the shortage of skilled workers."
Since the beginning of 2020, µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï has repositioned itself in terms of content and organisation under the leadership of Insa Sjurts following an economically challenging phase. With an optimised and future-oriented portfolio of offerings, a new campus in the heart of Hamburg, over 300 partner companies and 1,000 students, µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï is ideally equipped for the future.
Milestones of her tenure include the development of a new module system for the Bachelor's degree programmes with significantly more options for choice and specialisation, as well as the successful, short-term conversion of all teaching from face-to-face to online right at the start of the 2020 pandemic. Under her leadership, a strategic partnership with the Chamber of Commerce was also launched, through which µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï can contribute its many years of expertise as a dual business school in Hamburg in the academic training of specialists and managers, in order to help secure the future of Hamburg as a business location in this way as well.
"Professor Dr. Insa Sjurts has safely led the wheel in a difficult time and set our university on course for the future," explains Alexander Birken, Chairman of The Board of Trustees of µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï. "We are very sorry to lose Professor Sjurts as an exceptionally committed and qualified president and managing director. We wish her every success in her new task and are very pleased to remain in close contact with her through the intended cooperation with BHH."
The responsible committees of µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï are discussing the next steps and are initiating the application process for the selection of a successor.
Professor Dr. Insa Sjurts grew up in Hamburg and studied business administration and social economics there.
