Short Profile

Arnd von Westarp has been Professor of Business Administration at µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï in the Strategy & Leadership Department since January 2022.

Professor Westarp studied business mathematics at the University of Hamburg and the MBA Shipping programme at µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï. In 2021, he completed his doctorate at the University of Regensburg on the topic of "Development of digitalisation options in liner shipping under consideration of uncertainties". Before being appointed to the µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï, he worked for many years as a liner service developer and liner coordinator at Hamburg Südamerikanische Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft KG. Since 2014, he has been a lecturer in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes at µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï.

  • Development of a sales forecasting system
  • Development of mathematical models that included both the schedule data and the cargo volumes of Hamburg Süd and also of the partner shipping companies, in order to calculate an optimum profit and determine the steps required to achieve it
  • Development of models for the reduction of fuel consumption
  • Developing a risk management model that incorporates both cost control and customer satisfaction
